Asia clearly is leading the crowd and even Africa has some impressive data.

Very interesting to see how Mobile Social Networks get funded over the past months. Since Comscore announced that a lot of mobile traffic comes from social networks, it is interesting to see how investors are hyped about it.
“Mobile social networking firm Zannel announced the completion of a $10 million Series B financing round led by Alloy Ventures alongside existing Series A investors U.S. Venture Partners and Palomar Ventures. The company has so far raised a combined total of $16 million”
Personally I am still sceptical about mobile social networks. It’s an interesting aspect, especially when location is added to the phone. However a mobile device will hopefully be used for much more than that.
Nike launched a new mobile marketing campaign that let’s mobile users take pictures and use these colors to create colorful sneakers.
Even that I am historically more an Adidas boy, it’s pretty interesting to see how Nike pushes in the Mobile space with innovative stuff like that:
We are working behind the scenes to get our service up and running. For now we upgraded the website, re-designed it and worked on the QR Code generator.

Being based at the East Coast I haven’t had the pleasure to join the Mobile Barcamp In San Francisco. It seems that it has been a great event again and there was tons of stuff that is new.
Here are some reports from mobile folks that attended Mobile Barcamp San Francisco:
Dennis over at Wapreview - Looks like he had a lot of fun
TNKGRL Mobile - who showed how to hack a mobile
Wubbahed.com - Who posted about Whatfeels.com, which could be one of my favorite mobile sites
Phonenews - who is supposed to announce a new product, that I’d like to hear about as well.
Hmmaha- who is probably flying home right now…
Google just announced that they upgrade their mobile search landing page, improved their Igoogle page and a added a new search-plugin.
I am not really surprised by that. The mobile web and especially the mobile search work completely different and with the growth of the mobile web, Google must be afraid of loosing market share.
They will keep on pushing in the mobile space as hard as they can.
Optimizing for different mobile devices is a great challenge. But what do you do if someone surfs to your site with this device: The Internet Refrigerator Samsung RH2777AT

Traditional Story Telling on a Mobile Phone now the newest Trend in Japan. NTT DoCoMo, Inc. started to sell mobiles with traditional Japanese radio shows.
Pretty funny….and I guess I never fully will understand Japanese fascinating culture:

In an effort to help the mobile users, Google studied the effect of incorporating a feature like Google Suggest on mobile phones with 9-key keypads.
Here are the results of the study “Query Suggestions for Mobile Search: Understanding Usage Patterns.”:
“We found that these users respond favorably to query suggestions: Users who were shown suggestions while typing their query rated their overall enjoyment higher and perceived workload lower than users who were not shown suggestions. Users who were shown suggestions also reduced their overall key presses by half. Surprisingly, the time to enter a query for these users was not significantly less than the average time needed to enter queries for users who were not shown any suggestions.”
Very interesting study. Especially when it comes to buying a .mobi domain, a lot of people forget to think about the issues that come with a mobile keyboard.
Vollee has figured out how to bring Second Life on to the Mobile phone:
